Getting Started in Songwriting

What makes a good song anyway? Is it the haunting melody that gets caught in the mind? Is it the catchy rhythmic hook that makes people spontaneously chair dance? Is it an expression of a universal archetype of human existence?

There is no single answer. Successful songs affect people in different ways. Some deliver nostalgia (...when I was a child ...teen... young...happy... etc. ) . Others reflect a current state of being (...I am in love...alone...bitter...hurt...happy).  Others are word paintings that have no specific story, but the lyrics are imaginatively descriptive, the mood is heavy and the musical treatment is compelling.

So what do I do?

The single best piece of advice I can offer is to have a direction or message in mind. Think about what you want to say. Who is the audience? Maybe it's an individual.  You needn't have lived the story to relay it to others. As a writer you can convey any message or sentiment. Your song can contain multiple elements of delivery. That's where we can help.

If you are a poet, we try to place that art in a musical environment.  If you need help arranging a song's form, we are available and eager to assist. Our job is to make your song sound like you want with the professional quality that it deserves.

Sometimes the verbal or musical hook is the attraction...you know the scenario... where the huge crowd sings the chorus but none of the verses!  We can help with melodies and grooves that reflect a particular mood consistent with your vision of the tune.

So, here we go. Think about what you want to say, what audience you are seeking. What style ? (Pop, Country, Rock, Gospel etc), what services you may need and GET STARTED!!!
You will go through re-writes and doubts but it won't ever happen if you don't begin.
